Nogales Unified School District 1
NUSD 1 is the School district which encompasses the City of Nogales Arizona.
Nogales High School
The SF Ranch works closely with the NHS Science club first with Science Department head Neil Krugg and after his retirement with Science teacher Brian Brussel.
Project Wet- Science Club members put on an annual water festival at NHS for all area 4th graders. The Club kids contract school buses, present the project to the Nogales City council, coordinate day of event logistics, obtain donations for materials, fees, drinks and lunch, obtain teaching materials from Arizona Department and then present the material at a daylong out of doors event that brings together up to 500 4th grade students. The Ranch also receives invaluable assistance on this project from the Natural Resource Conservation District (see Environmental partners).
Science Club members were instrumental in the development and maintenance of the SF Ranch Las Lagunas de Anza . Two or the members sat on the Las Lagunas steering committee. Club members cleaned out many tons of debris and invasive cat tails from the wetlands.
Some Club members have done their senior project on wetlands and one of the members was a speaker at the American Trails Conference
Science Club members have participated in erosion control projects at the SF Ranch.
Anza Club- The Ranch, in partnership with the National Park Service has established Anza Clubs at each of NHS and RRHS (see Projects for a description of the Anza Clubs).
Out of Doors Club- The Ranch collaborates with the NHS Outdoors Club- Club members participated in the Buenos Aires National Refuge community outreach and on the creation of a hiking trail and camp site at the Ranch.
Bracker Elementary School
The Ranch in partnership with the NRCD puts on an annual Ranch Days visit for the Bracker Elementary students- in addition to the NRCD we are assisted by the Santa Cruz County Cowbelles and the Rural Fire Department.
