The Anza expedition which resulted in the establishment of the Presidio in San Francisco, is a significant historical event in Southern Arizona and the US portion of the route taken by those colonists has been declared a National Park, The Juan Bautista de Anza National Trail. The Trail is important to the Ranch in that Las Lagunas is the thirteenth campsite along the Anza Trail and we are in the process of being certified as the official start of the trail. The Anza club was started in 2012 at Rio Rico and Nogales High Schools with a partnership between the National Park Service and the Ranch.
The club focuses on the history of the Anza Expedition (Anza not only camped at the wetlands, but his family had big ranches in the area both before and after the expedition) and participates in Anza celebrations in Tucson, Tubac, Tumacacori and San Francisco. Club members go to area elementary school where they give presentations and participate in several Ranch activities primarily at Las Lagunas.
The Anza club has participated in major community events, it is the ranch elite club in that all graduating club members have gone on to college.
Anza Club is led by Yara Sanchez and Antony.
